Treatment Overview – What is Morpheus 8 & how does it work?

The Calla Clinic is excited to offer Morpheus; a treatment which combines micro-needling with fractional radiofrequency (RF) to tighten, smooth and contour your skin. The microtrauma caused by the micro-pins and thermal energy stimulates your natural healing response which causes complete remodelling of the epidermis, dermis and deep subdermal tissue and fat. Over 3-6 months the building blocks of your skin will be completely rejuvenated with new collagen and elastin formation and restructured fat. This tightens and smooths your skin, reduces laxity, and improves your skin texture.

  • This treatment is suitable for all skin types, with minimal risk of pigmentation.
  • Minimal downtime
  • Minimally invasive alternative to surgery
  • Long-lasting results
Morpheus 8 Before and After

Treatment Process

Initially we will book you in for a complimentary consultation to discuss your skin concerns and assess your suitability for this treatment plus answer any questions you may have. If we feel Morpheus8 will be beneficial for you, we will arrange your first treatment.

On the day of your treatment we will talk through the consent form and ensure any other questions are answered.

The first step involves cleansing your skin to minimise the risk of infection. Following this we will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area being treated. We use small anaesthetic injections and occasionally a cannula to apply the anaesthetic.

Once your skin is sufficiently numb, we will begin the Morpheus 8 treatment. The process of using the radiofrequency and micro-needling machine will only last a few minutes and should be a comfortable experience; we will be continuously checking how you are feeling throughout the procedure.

Once completed we will re-cleanse your skin and apply an aftercare balm that will soothe your skin and encourage the healing process.

Immediately after the procedure your skin will feel warm and appear red, however this begins to improve straight away and typically settles within a few hours.

How long with the treatment take?

This will depend on the area being treated; however, we advise a minimum time of at least one hour to allow for the process pre-procedure consent and numbing your skin. You will be advised on the expected treatment time when you book in for your treatment.

Is the procedure painful?

As outlined in the treatment process section, a local anaesthetic is injected into the area being treated to ensure the procedure is comfortable. We also apply numbing cream to you prior to the small anaesthetic injections to ensure this is as painless as possible.

Aftercare & Side Effects

The Morpheus 8 is a minimally invasive procedure with a quick recovery time. Following your Morpheus 8 treatment your skin will feel warm and appear red. This usually settles within 24 hours.

Over the next few days, you may notice the formation of small pinpoint scabs and a visible pinhole pattern on the skin where the treatment has pierced the surface. This is completely normal and should heal within one week. Occasionally small bruises can develop at the site of treatment and will gradually heel over the week.

We advise you to keep your skin clean and use an appropriate cleanser twice daily. We will also provide an aftercare balm for you to apply twice daily after cleansing. It is important that you apply a broad range SPF daily and avoid excessive exposure to UV light (no sunbathing and no sunbeds). We also advise for the first 24 hours to avoid applying make-up, unless it is a suitable post-procedure foundation such as oxygenetix; this is important to reduce the risk of infection as there will be multiple tiny open wounds where your skin has been pierced by the micro-pins.

Rest assured that during your recovery should any problems or concerns arise we are available 24/7 to provide advice and review your skin if we feel this is needed.

How many treatments do I need?

To achieve optimum results a course of at least 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended. A single top up treatment can be performed every 1-2 years to maintain the results.

How long do results last?

Results are expected to last 2-5 years depending on your individual rate of skin aging determined by factors such as smoking, sun exposure, skin care routine and genetics.

Morpheus 8 and PRP Combined Treatment

PRP (Platelet rich plasma) involves taking a sample of your own blood in and placing it into a centrifuge which spins the sample at a rapid rate. The process of spinning separates your blood into different layers. We take the plasma layer and use that to work magic on your skin.

The PRP can be applied to your skin during the Morpheus 8 treatment where it will penetrate through the tiny pinholes we have created. In the skin, the PRP contains growth factors which cause collagen and elastin synthesis and remodelling, further enhancing the effects of Morpheus8 treatment.

These treatments used in combination can achieve incredible results.
